Why I don't say "YOLO" (Part 1)

YOLO
YOLO is already getting old; well over-said everywhere.
What's YOLO? Just a "Fad" like "epic" was and "swag" was.
YOLO, made popular by rappers like Drake and Rick Ross means "You Only Live Once".

I should have posted this weeks back when "YOLO" started bugging me... but it didn't cross my mind until hours earlier, a couple of days back.

I saw a post on "facebook" with a view on YOLO that was quite honorable. Here's what it said:
THE CONCEPT OF YOLO ISN’T TO GO SMOKE, AND DRINK, AND MAKE AN ASS OF YOURSELF. IT’S TO GO OUT AND DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE THAT MATTERS.
Now, if everyone in the world was a Christian (a true follower of Jesus Christ), this statement would make sense and be true. But not everyone thinks that YOLO means this.

Here's what my response was:
Unfortunately, not many people share your view. To many, it means to go do something silly (even stupid) or ungodly because you only live once. So, I can risk my life for a momentarily pleasure and hope I survive because I only live once. Everybody living at the moment yelling "YOLO" is forgetting that if they're living, it's because they've gotten a lot more than one chance to live on earth.Plus, I believe when Drake said YOLO, it was an indirect jab at believers and at Christ.

I'll expand a bit so there's no confusion:

- Not many people share this view: YOLO to someone could mean "I only live once so why not try stealing that car" or "I only live once, let's see how fast I can drive and hopefully I get away with it"... or "I only live once, I'll go ask that married woman out" or like the post I'm referencing said "I only live once, so let me drink as much as I can, party till I drop and be dumb".

The concept of YOLO is to encourage you to try something extreme (usually something with a negative connotation) that you haven't before. You don't believe me? look up Drake's lyrics for the song.

- Everyone alive (no exceptions) is breathing because they've gotten at least one more chance to live. We've all had a near-death experience no matter how minor or major it was, but God let us live.
For believers chanting "YOLO!", remember, If any man (or woman) is in Christ, he (or she) is a new creation, the old is passed away (dead) and the new is here. That Bible verse says Every believer is living twice already (Born again = Born twice = Living twice).

- Drake said YOLO as an indirect jab at believers and at Jesus Christ. He may have said so intentionally or unintentionally, but remember who the accuser of the saints (or brethren) is? The devil.
Basically, YOLO tries to imply that we're idiots and liars to think that we're made new (living again or born again) and is saying that Jesus didn't rise from the dead.

Jesus rose from the dead. Fact!
I'm a new creature. Fact!
I will live again if I die before Christ returns. Fact! Same applies to all Believers.

YOLO is dumb. Don't say it because everyone else is. Why say something that contradicts what and Whom you live for?

Drake is a gifted artist, but YOLO, I repeat is dumb... dare I say evil? Yes. It is evil if it seeks to /tries to discredit Christ.

Those are my thoughts on YOLO.

And if you think I "Over-spiritualize this topic" or I made it "too spiritual", please check back next week for my post "Why I don't say anything is 'too spiritual'".

Selah.
